Adi Ballygunge ( Golpark), the name itself gives an impression of a traditional society in the heart of Kolkata. Our locality ages to more than a 100 years and is located in the southern region of the city. Ballygunge Gardens is the connector between Golpark and Ruby via Kasba surrounded by the Gariahat junction in the North, Dhakuria in the South, Ballygunge Rly Stn in the East and Golpark crossing in the West. Very few new buildings are to be seen here and most of the houses are present for above 80 years personifying the rich cultural heritage of this place. And talking about the people of this locality, they are humble, well-educated, socialized and peace lovers, maintaining a very good relationship with the surrounding neighbourhood. Apart from other activities Durga puja, Kali puja and Saraswati puja are celebrated here in a very beautiful and decent manner, with every family coming together and joining hands to make these festivals a remarkable and memorable one. We celebrate Durga puja with grandeur, commitment and responsibility. Adi Ballygunge Sarbojanin Durga Puja Parishad is the committee that has been arranging this puja since 1926, with the help and involvement of all people in the locality. Very little is known to us about the celebration in the early years, but lately we have names of important personalities who were residents of Ballygunge Gardens and had carried out this festival. Lt Bimal Mukherjee (famous cyclist) who toured the world deserves main mention, followed by Lt Shri Satyajit Ray (National award winning film maker), Lt Nirmal Mukherjee (former Indian hockey player), Lt Raghunath Mukherjee (first chief accountant of Dey\'s Medical), Lt Dr Radhagobindo Basak (educationist), Lt Dr Satyajit Dasgupta (famous doctor and writer), Lt Shri Haradhan Banerjee (National award winning actor), Lt Shri Samit Bhanja (National award winner director and actor), Lt Shri Tushar Talukdar (former police commissioner, Kolkata Police) and many other respectful and famous persons who took the initiative of carrying out this Durga Puja and the trend continues. This year we are proud to share and celebrate with you our Pre –centenary year (99th) of our Durga Puja celebrations. Like previous years, this year also, we are coming up with innovative, effective and better ideas to celebrate this festival keeping in mind its age and the continuity in which it is being carried out.
